According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox is moving forward on a plan to make an animated feature film based on Mutts, a daily strip “centering on the antics of a dog named Earl and a cat named Mooch who interact with each other and the animals in their neighborhood, as well as their human owners.” Mutts creator Patrick McDonnell will pen the adaptation alongside his brother Robert.įrom a critical perspective, comic strip adaptations have a recent track record that one might charitably call “wretched.” The most recent of them, Marmaduke, c ouldn’t break double digits on Rotten Tomatoes. Comic-book flicks are all the rage now, but what will provide the inspiration for Hollywood’s next wave of blockbusters? Antiquated board games are one promising category, but there are only so many of those to license.
